Android “Aye;” Apple “No” to Mobile App Donation Functionality

Embedding donation capability into politically-oriented mobile apps will be a terrific fund-raising avenue for campaigns, but so far Apple isn’t playing ball.

Laura Bassett writes on the subject for Huffington Post here.  Ms Bassett reports on the frustrations of nonprofit charities, however, the issue applies to any nonprofit group, hoping to encourage users to donate “in-app.”

Workarounds exist, of course, by asking a user to link out to the publisher’s mobile web site, however, any digital marketing professional will tell you that with every step added to the process abandonment increases.

Still, the glass is half full.  With Android outselling iPhone and with Microsoft throttling up its mobile platform marketing, there remains a huge opportunity for campaigns to ask their mobile audience for donations.
